Live Rock

We've been really busy over the weekend doing dog stuff but did manage to buy 15 kilos of live rock and dump it into the tank. We are waiting for a delivery of egg crate so we can construct the stage for it to sit on then get creative. We also bought a digital thermometer and another powerhead.

So far we've spotted various creatures including crabs and snails. There's also some kind of anemone which got us very excited...then we were told it was the bad sort and to get it out. Oh well :)

D-Day

Today we think we took delivery of our new tank. The next step is to get the RO unit plumbed in then we can think about filling it!

What is an RO unit? It is a device that plums into your mains tapwater supply using reverse osmosis to produce a small quantity of pure water and a larger amount of discarded 'polluted' water. The RO water is very low in pollutants therefore ideal for use in marine aquariums where trace levels of some chemicals can cause algae to bloom.

The journey begins

The aim of this blog is to record our journey into the world of reef keeping.

After a lot of research and head scratching at all the various bits of kit and lots of money needed to have a successful marine aquarium we came across the Red Sea Max. It is advertised as a plug-and-play aquarium designed to make reefkeeping easier and more successful. Basically you get everything you need to get started in one box, idiot proof assembly instructions and the option of a starter kit which includes reef base, salt, test kit, various chemicals and hydrometer.
